Hot Wheels Weekend is coming to Marysville for its sixth annual event on August 26-27.
Free car/pop culture event, hosted by the Marysville Business Council, will feature hundreds of cars, a car cruise, drive-in movie, pin-up contest, actors, entertainment and more Again.
“This year is much bigger and better than ever before,” said Christopher Troy, Director of Marysville Hot Wheels Weekend Entertainment. “Not only are we expecting more cars than in previous years, but our celebrities and live music are off the charts.”
Troy is one of three organizers of the event through the Marysville Business Council.
The event will begin on August 26. The day will include a car cruise on Boulevard Gratiot starting at 6 p.m., followed by a family drive-in at the new Village Green Plaza.
On August 27, the auto show will begin at noon at Marysville Park. Cars will be able to arrive at 10 a.m.
“We’re home to over 300 cars ranging from collectible muscle cars to high-end classics to my favorite rat rods,” Troy said. “But we also have motorcycles, scooters, monster trucks and much more.”
There is no registration, as it is a free show and there is no judging. Goody bags will be given out to the first 200 cars with Hot Wheels dash plates.
Troy said organizers hope to have around 400 cars in attendance this year.
Mickey Dolenz from the 1960s TV show “The Monkees” will sign autographs and meet fans with a Monkeemobile used by the show. Erin Murphy, who played Tabitha on the 1960s and 1970s TV show “Bewitched,” will also be on hand to sign and pose with fans. As seen on Netflix and The Weather Channel, “Heavy Rescue: 401″‘s Gary Vandenheuvel will return to meet the fans.
Live entertainment will include The Phantom Shakers, from Austin, Texas, performing original classic rock ‘n’ roll. Next, the Miss Marysville Hot Wheels Weekend Pin-Up Contest will take place.
“These are loving women from all over Michigan who will be competing to be Miss Marysville Hot Wheels Weekend,” Troy said. “Once they have performed and been judged, Sandee Facy from Melbourne, Australia will perform on stage. …Sandee is a Maryville alum so it will be great to see her. Following her set, the Miss Marysville Pin Up 2022 will be awarded.
He noted that Facy got a no. 1 country single in the Australian charts.
After the ceremony, the Chris Casello Trio of Nashville, Tennessee, will perform “bluesy, rockabilly music” and then Deke Dickerson of St. Louis, Missouri, will perform country swing, Troy said.
“Next, our headliner, the one and only Reverend Horton Heat from (Dallas), TX will tear up the stage with his gasoline-laden psychobilly rock ‘n’ roll,” he said.
Food trucks and other traders will also be present.
“Of course, bringing such amazing live music to a small town like Marysville is always amazing, but we continue to grow with events like the 2022 Power Wheel Drag races this year,” Troy said. “Power Wheel, originally designed as toys, has now been inflated and competes in national drag contests. Our event will be at 2 p.m. on the upper level of the park next to the ball diamonds.
He said Hot Wheels Weekend, which usually averages between 3,000 and 4,000 spectators, is a fun family event held in hopes of creating great memories.
“Great cars, great live music, food trucks, vendors and more are what we look for every year at Maryville Hot Wheels Weekend,” he said.
