MatchBOX organizes the first block party in Lafayette | Community

MatchBOX Coworking Studio in Lafayette held its first fundraising block party in downtown Lafayette on Saturday.

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – MatchBOX Coworking Studio in Lafayette held its first fundraising block party in downtown Lafayette on Saturday.

The event raised funds from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. to expand MatchBOX’s programs to locals who want help starting and running their own businesses. The non-profit organization hosted more than 100 attendees on Saturday evening.

A local DJ and band provided entertainment while local restaurants fed everyone.

One of the programs that will be supported by the funds raised is their 6-week course on how to start a business for beginners.

“It’s important for everyone to remember to celebrate the hard work they’ve put in, isn’t it? Like, we’ve been through a lot,” said MatchBOX COO Juliana Casavan. “Local businesses, downtown businesses, have been through a lot in the last two years. And I think it’s really important to know that they have support, that they have a community and that ‘they have people who want to support them and celebrate them.”

Block party money will also provide scholarships for members who may not be able to afford their $99 per month fee.

“We recognize that (the $99 per month fee) might not be accessible to everyone,” Casavan said. “Access is really important to us, so we also have scholarship rates so people can become members. We often give out free memberships. We try to continue to subsidize our programs and memberships so anyone in the community that needs the resources can come.”

If you missed the event, there is still hope.

Casavan said that with the success of tonight’s festivities, MatchBOX will likely make the block party an annual event.
